                                              Chef Laura Vein

                                              Laura E. Vein, a native of Grand Forks, North Dakota, moved to Charleston, SC in 2009 to attend the Culinary Institute of Charleston. In 2007 she earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, New Art Media & Photography from the University of North Dakota. Laura fell in love with the Charleston area and with the Culinary Institute of Charleston in 2008 while touring Graphic Design graduate schools, and she decided to postpone her masters work to pursue her other loves: Baking and Pastry.

                                              Laura has worked as a graphic designer/photographer for the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. She is a former barista extrordinaire and assistant manager at Archives Coffee House in Grand Forks, ND, and a baker at Dakota Harvest Bakers in Grand Forks, ND. Laura is the founder and former instructor of the award-winning “Sweet Treats” series at the Culinary Corner Demo Kitchen at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. Her promotional material design won a first place award at the 2009 National Intramural & Recreational Sports Creative Excellence Awards

                                              In spring 2010, Laura competed in the National Honey Board’s honey competition at the Culinary Institute of Charleston, and her creation, “Pain Perdu with Creme Fraiche Pastry Cream, Honeyed Oranges & Orange Blossom Honey Syrup,” won the pastry first place award  http://sweet-treats-baking.blogspot.com/2010/02/winning-honey-competition-pain-perdu.html . Laura has volunteered with Taste of Charleston, the CIC Vintner’s Dinner, the 2010 Charleston Wine + Food Festival in addition to many other prestigious events.

                                              Currently, Laura works as an adjunct baking & pastry instructor at the Culinary Institute of Charleston. She has merged her love of photography, design & pastry as the creator and writer of the blog “Sweet Treats Baking.”  http://sweet-treats-baking.blogspot.com/  She is a member of the American Culinary Federation, the Bread Bakers’ Guild of America, and the Daring Bakers. Laura is an avid photographer and freelance designer and loves to travel whenever possible.

                                              Laura is passionate about baking and pastry and is also passionate about sharing that love with others.
